Final Project Concept

I’m interested in transforming sound or video image into physical object patterns.

I want to make a floating sculpture of magnet spheres visualizing ambient sound data or real time video data. The installation consists of 10x10 magnet spheres that form the pixels of a physical screen, each magnet sphere will float in the air by placing an electro magnet under each one where magnet field is created. The volume of ambient sound or each pixel’s brightness of real time video image will change the current, therefore change the height of magnet sphere individually from microcontroller, then a variety of arrangements, 3D patterns and animations can be achieved.

A project called electric moons inspired me, a video is available on this website: http://www.electricmoons.com/

Meeting #5

Note:

-spend some time think about the project you did, the time you spent
-prototype can bring in amazing feedback, that's the power of prototype

Assignment:
A Random Project (prototype will be presented in next week)

Is dice a finite state machine?

just thought about a question:
is dice a finite state machine?

i think dice is a kind of complex finite state machine. Although it seems the number you get everytime by throwing out the dice is not dependable on the previous number, by throwing as many times as possible, you will get equal times of every number, or we can say state, so it seems it really can "remember" its all previous states somehow. This is really magic i must say!

#1 meeting

Living Art, building something alive, breathing, can "listen" and "speak", that's what interpret Living Art, cool! I'm ready! But i'm still on waitlist #5, hope i could get in.

Some keywords i wrote down on my note during class, pretty cool words:
presense, context, memory, sense, rythm, symmetry, system, rule, protocol, state, structure, generative, living, participation, random, interacting, participating

and some sentences...
define things differently may change your solution
many things are what you are already doing
